1st Black woman graduate from MUSC retires after 50 years in medicine
Dr. Rose Delores Gibbs graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1973, becoming the first Black woman to obtain a medical degree from the university. Since then she’s made it her mission to treat her patients as if they were her own family.
“First means you have the responsibility of making sure that those how are coming behind you see a good star,” Gibbs said. “A star that’s high, a star that’s shining brightly, a star that’s moving forward and a star that you can follow.”
